Artificial Graphite Columnar

Artificial graphite columnar refers to man-made graphite shaped into rods or columns, often from petroleum coke, processed at extremely high temperatures to create a highly structured, pure carbon material used primarily as a high-efficiency recarburizer (carbon additive) in foundries to improve molten iron quality, or as components in batteries, electrodes, and lubricants. These columnar forms have large pores and a structure that promotes rapid dissolution and uniform graphite distribution in metals, enhancing casting properties like strength and reducing defects.

Key Characteristics & Uses:
1. Source Material: Typically made from petroleum coke or coal tar pitch, shaped, and then graphitized at temperatures over 2500°C (5400°F).
2. Structure: Possesses a regular, well-defined crystalline structure with wide molecular spacing, allowing for faster decomposition in molten metal.
3. Foundry Industry: Acts as a "recarburizer," rapidly adding carbon to iron/steel, increasing graphite nucleation, refining graphite structure, and improving casting quality (e.g., in ductile iron).
Other Applications: Used in lithium-ion battery anodes, electrical contacts, friction materials, and as solid lubricants.
